Vaccines

Zydus Vaccines state of art vaccine manufacturing facilities are situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat at Changodar and Moraiya manufacturing sites. The vaccine facility located at Moraiya site is engaged in manufacturing of Rabies vaccine (Human), whereas the vaccine facility located at Changodar is engaged in development and manufacturing of various vaccine products. Currently, there are seven drug substance and eight drug product manufacturing plants, and many new plants are under development and/or commissioning.

These modern and state of the art plants are equipped with advanced infrastructure that adheres to international quality and regulatory standards, enabling the production of a wide range of vaccines.

Vaccine R&D centre boasts of the capability to develop vaccines on mostly all vaccine platforms including live viral, inactivated viral, bacterial, polysaccharide, polysaccharide protein conjugates, protein subunit, VLP, toxoids, viral vectored, nucleic acid including both mRNA and pDNA and combination vaccines. The center has also forayed into development of its own proprietary adjuvants, give Zydus a unique distinction of probably being the only Indian vaccine company to be working on both vaccines and adjuvants.

From its inception, VTC was designed to address both national and global health challenges. Zydus developed India’s first H1N1 Influenza vaccine (Vaxiflu-S) way back in 2010, followed by launch of first indigenously developed Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine (VaxiFlu-4) in 2017 and more recently again it became the first company to transition to Trivalent Influenza Vaccine (VaxiFlu) as per global recommendations in India. These achievements positions Zydus as a pioneer in influenza vaccine space in India.

Zydus has also received WHO prequalification of two vaccines, viz. Typhoid Vi conjugate vaccine (Zyvac TCV), which is also the World’s second fully indigenously developed vaccine and Inactivated Rabies vaccine (VaxiRab N).

In recent years, VTC has also expanded its strength in measles containing vaccines and have indigenously developed and commercialized Measles-Rubella (MR) and Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) combination vaccines. In fact, Zydus has been providing MR vaccine to the Indian government’s Universal Immunization Program (UIP) since 2025 and contributing to the well- being of infants in the country.

One of the groundbreaking achievements came with ZyCoV-D, the world’s first plasmid DNA vaccine approved for human use, developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This innovation placed Zydus at the forefront of global vaccine technology, showcasing India’s ability to deliver novel platforms for emerging infectious diseases.

Today, Zydus continues to build on its legacy with a strong pipeline of vaccines in preclinical and clinical stages, targeting both established and emerging pathogens. Its history reflects a trajectory of consistent innovation, global collaboration, and commitment to public health. By combining advanced manufacturing facilities, a dedicated team of researchers, and partnerships with organizations like the and the Gates Foundation, the Vaccine Technology Centre has evolved from a national initiative into a globally recognized leader in vaccine research, development and supply.
